SEO Copywriting: 17 Powerful Keys (Updated for 2018)

Understanding SEO is fantastic.
Understanding Copywriting is great.
But When you're able to do BOTH?
That's When you're able to slap an "S" on your chest...
...since You'll be unstoppable.
And Now I have something which will make you feel like you have SEO superpowers:
17 Insanely actionable search engine optimization copywriting tips that you can use at the moment.
Notice: This post was first published in 2015. I recently gave it a much needed upgrade. Additionally, I added a bunch of new tips that I learned. Enjoy!

A While ago I published a post called, "Why Google Hates Your Site (Hint: It Has Something to Do With TrustRank)":

With This post I decided to really go after a key word my competitors wouldn't bother targeting...
...even Even though it gets an adequate number of searches.
What Was the keyword?
"Google Hates my website"
Believe It or not, I did not pull this keyword from thin air.
I Chose this keyword because I saw a great deal of people in SEO forums stating things such as this:

And If folks post something at a forum, you can bet your ass that they also hunt for precisely the identical thing in Google.
So I decided to use a variation of that key word in my post:

Today, Besides ranking #1 for the goal keyword ("Google TrustRank")...

...when Someone searches for "Google hates my website" (and other variations of the search), I show up in the top place:

How Can you use this technique for more traffic?
First, Optimize your page exactly like you usually would (If you need a hand, check out these 14 advanced on-page search engine optimization strategies).
However, Until you hit "publish", scan forums to get phrases and words people have a tendency to use on your subject.
For Example, let's say your main key word was "organic vegetable gardening".
You'd search in Google with inurl:forum + "organic vegetable gardening":

This Will produce a couple forum threads around that subject:

Skim The first few threads that you discover.
When You see a phrase that seems like a fantastic match...

Skim The first couple of threads that you find.
When You see a phrase that looks like a good match...

...search That term Google:

If A lot of results pop up (like with this example), add those words and phrases into your article.

And You are all set.

...and You're ready for trick #4.

Bold promise? Definitely.
But Remain with me.
What is The big secret I am speaking about?
Create Your keyword phrases.
I'll explain.
If You search for your brand in Google, you likely rank #1.

You May not have thought about it, but your manufacturer is a key word...
...a Keyword that you rank #1 for.
However, why stop there?
You Can generate boatloads of additional organic traffic when you also brand your strategies and techniques.
For Case in point:
You've Probably learned about The Skyscraper Technique, my 3-step formula for getting more organic traffic to your site.

Since I branded my strategy "The Skyscraper Technique", I now have a pipeline of extra visitors coming to my site everyday.
In Fact, according to Google Search Console, the keyword "Skyscraper Technique" gets 1,093 searches per month:

Since I rank #1 for that keyword (and look in the answer box) , I receive the lion's share of those 1,103 clicks:

Bottom Line?
Whenever You build a unique strategy, strategy, or strategy...
...make Sure you slap a branded name on it.
When You do, you are going to get a lot of additional organic traffic.

Here's The bargain:
Sure, Social sharing buttons help you get more stocks...
...but In most cases, they're insufficient.
Instead, I Suggest tapping into a copywriter's best buddy:
A Call to action.
Let Me clarify.
A Couple of months ago I published "17 Insanely Actionable List Building Strategies That Will Create More Clients Today":

To Maximize the number of shares this article got, I included a "click to tweet" button under each item on the list:

To Date, my article has over 2900 tweets...

...and A good chunk of those 2900 tweets came from my own "click to converse" buttons:

Here is How you can do the same thing:
First, Locate a super actionable tip or strategy out of your post.
Next, Head to ClickToTweet.com. Click on "fundamental link":

Turn Your actionable tip into a tweet:

Switch Your actionable tip to some tweet:

Grab The link...

...and Pop up the link in your post.
You Can use buttons just like I did. However, plain-text links also work great:

Whether You use a button or a plain link, certainly add at least one "click To converse" call to action in your next article.

When Someone lands on your site from an internet search engine, just two things can happen:
They Either leave away...
...or They stick.
And If people stick on your own webpage like superglue, Google believes:
"This Is a great page. Let's give it a rankings boost."
But When people leave your site like a sinking ship...
That is If Google drops you like a rock.

The bottom line?
If You need higher rankings, you have to keep people on your site.
How? Bucket Brigades.
Bucket Brigades are words and phrases that keep people on your page.
For Example:
You May observe that I often use short sentences that end in a colon, like this:

That is a Bucket Brigade.
But What are Bucket Brigades, precisely?
Bucket Brigades are an old school copywriting tactic that were originally designed to help keep people reading revenue letters.
I have Adapted Bucket Brigades for SEO content and the results are, well, mad.
In Reality, here's Backlinko's average time on page:

Yes, That's 4 minutes.
A Great chunk of that above-average Time Page is because of the fact I sprinkle Bucket Brigades into every post.
Now It is time for me to show you how you can utilize Bucket Brigades to boost your Time on Page:
First, Locate a place in your content where a person's likely to hit their browser's "back" button...
...and Add a Bucket Brigade.
Start With your intro.
Here is An example where I used two Bucket Brigades within my intro:

(By The manner, the Time On Page for that post is over 5 minutes):

You Also want to utilize Bucket Brigades in the center of your articles.

Bottom Lineup: whenever you have a section where somebody may get bored and leave, add a Bucket Brigade.
You Can create your personal Bucket Brigades...or you can use these tried-and-true Bucket Brigade classics:

And -- bada bing, bada boom -- you're set.

Look:
Most People think SEO copywriting is all about putting words.
However, In my experience, the STRUCTURE of your articles is equally as important as the writing itself.
And What better spot to locate demonstrated content structures than Udemy?

(In Case you're unfamiliar with Udemy, it is a huge directory of online courses)
Here is The way it is possible to use Udemy to make your next bit of articles 2-3x more persuasive:
First, Head to Udemy and input a key word.
For Example, let's say you're writing a blog post about photography. You'd search for "photography":

Udemy Will reveal all of their popular photography classes:

Next, Pick a class with a great deal of reviews.
Here is one:

After You select a course, have a look at how a lot of people have already registered in it.
As You're able to see, over 70,000 individuals have enrolled in this photography course:

Do You see how huge this is?
You're Looking at content which 70,000 people have shelled out cold hard cash to access.
That Means you don't have to rely in your Spidey sense. You KNOW there is going to be need for your content.
Countless Of individuals have already voted...using their wallets.
Currently:
After You've found a favorite course, scroll down to the "Curriculum" section.
That's Where you'll find the proven structure you may use for your next blog post, movie or infographic:

Obviously, You don't want to rip off the instructor's course. However, You can use bits and pieces of this curriculum for your outline:

Now That you have your outline, it's almost time to put pen to paper.
Before You do, be certain to read the next technique in my list...

After You have added a few Bucket Brigades, move onto technique #3...

Now's Super-smart Google does not care how many times you cram a keyword into your article.
Instead, It pays close attention to Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) key words. (LSI Key words are a fancy way of saying: "synonyms and closely associated words")
And These LSI keywords help Google understand what your page is about.
For Example, let us say you write an article optimized around the keyword "cars".
How Does Google know if your page is about:

  • Cars the vehicle
  • Automobiles the film
  • The 1970s rock band (with horrible hair)
  • The Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs)

The Answer? LSI key words.
For Example, when Google sees a webpage with LSI key words like this...

...they Know the page is about the cars you drive.
However, When Google sees a webpage like this...

...that they Know it's about Cars the movie.
So How can you add more LSI keywords into your content?
I'll explain with an example:
Let's State your key word was "playstation RPGs".
First, Hunt for that key word in Google:

Then, Scan the page for bold phrases and words that are not the key words you just typed in.
Here Are several examples from Google's first page:

See How Google bolds words like "Final Fantasy VIII" and "PS1"?
This Means that Google considers those phrases VERY similar to the key words you searched for.
(In Other words, LSI key words)
Finally, Sprinkle these bold terms into your content...
